NYCHA Reporter - City Limits
City Limits, an award-winning nonprofit newsroom that has covered New York City since 1976, is seeking a reporter and writer to join our team to cover NYCHA and all things public housing.
This full-time position will report directly to City Limits’ executive editor, and will perform the following duties:
- Provide robust and regular coverage of NYCHA, including long-form investigative projects as well as frequent spot news items and public-service features on policy, financing and the ongoing public housing maintenance crisis
- Regularly attending tenants association and NYCHA board meetings, engaging with tenants and stakeholders and cultivating relationships with sources
- Helping to host public events such as panel discussions, tenant forums and (during election season, such as the upcoming 2023 City Council races) candidate debates specifically focused on NYCHA
- Helping to produce a weekly email newsletter for the NYCHA beat
- Representing City Limits in media appearances to share and discuss our reporting on these topics
While we are a remote-friendly workplace, candidates must be based in or near New York City and be available for in-person reporting assignments when required. Other preferred qualifications/skills include:
- Imagination, hard work, self-direction, the ability to work with a team, and a devotion to the duty of informing democracy
- Excellent writing and reporting skills, proficiency with AP style
- An interest in and familiarity with public policy issues
- Spanish-language skills and experience with investigative reporting techniques preferred
